The Navarre Chamber Foundation  will have an informational booth at Fun Fest (Fri & Sat – Apr 27 & 28) to inform the community about the Marine Sanctuary progress,  sell nature walk bricks and promote the Run for the Reef.    We’ll also  staff the beer booth Saturday night.  The Foundation will get to keep tips received during the beer booth shift.

Additional volunteers are needed, particularly Saturday evening at the beer booth  from 4 pm to 7 pm.  Please contact Nancy Sandler (nasandler@bellsouth.net)  if you wish to help.

Thanks to those who have already volunteered and a big thank you to the Navarre Chamber for donating part of the Fun Fest 5K Proceeds to the Marine Sanctuary program.

PRESS RELEASE

May 17, 2011:

The Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary Committee (NBMSC), a program of the Navarre Chamber Foundation, is pleased to announce that the Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association (NBLRA) has voted to become a Prime Sponsor of the 3rd Annual Run For The Reef 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run on October 15, 2011. The Run For The Reef 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run benefits the NBMSC’s mission to bring shore-accessible snorkeling and diving reefs to both the Sound side and Gulf side waters off of beautiful Navarre Beach Park. The NBLRA’s generous $1000 gift, which will be presented to the NBMSC at 10a.m. on Saturday, May 21st at the Navarre Beach Marine Science Center, pushes the pre-race sponsorships for the Run For The Reef to record levels, insuring that this year’s event will be the most successful fund raising event ever to benefit the NBMSC. With the recent announcement of funding commitments for the actual construction of the reefs from Santa Rosa County and the TDC, the NBMSC looks forward to a point in the very near future where Navarre Beach Is Snorkelicious!! For more information on the Run For The Reef (including Race Registration forms) and the NBMSC’s mission, please visit our website at: www.navarrebeachmarinesanctuary.com.

The grant application package for the 2009 Impact 100 Grant is complete and has been delivered.  The Marine Sanctuary has submitted the grant package in the Environmental category.  There are five categories, each with an award of $102,800.   The grant specifically targets using the funds for the Phase II sound side reef due to the ability to actually complete all the Phase II work before Fall of 2010 should we get the grant.

A site visit will occur where two to three of the Impact 100 grant reviewers visit with us to learn more about our project and the Chamber Foundation (the 501 c 3 that we opperate under).  The site visit should occur in the July/August time frame with finalist selected the latter part of September.

Finalists make a presentation in October immediately prior to the final selection of grantees.  Think good thoughts and spread the word about our great project and the wonderful community benefits with regard to Environment, Economy and Education.  We feel it’s definitely grant worthy.    Here’s to hoping Impact 100 helps us to “Make Navarre Snorkelicious”.
