Committee members and others indicate more and more people are using and enjoying the reef amenities at Navarre Beach Park.   Many reports of abundant sea life on and around the reefs and almost full coverage of the basic reef structures in less than one year since deployment.  Mike Sandler snapped this photo on a recent dive of the Gulf Reef site.

The reefs are indeed installed and fully visible from the surface. Several Marine Sanctuary Committee members took to the water to check out the reefs up close by diving and snorkeling them. They do look impressive and the fish seemed to be enjoying the new structures already.

Here are some shots taken by Mike Sandler  on one of the first dives of the Gulf Side reefs

The Funfest 5K support team is seeking volunteers.  This event raises funds for the Chamber (501 c 3) Foundation.  This is the same foundation that we  (the Maine Sanctuary) are associated with.

Volunteers can sign-up at the Navarre Area Chamber (Visitor Center – Hwy 98 and Navarre Beach Bridge) or contact Mike Sandler at mjsandler@bellsouth.net

Volunteers are needed to do the following:

Build race packets week prior to Funfest

Help set up course or registration on morning of race

Help during the race on the course or finish line

Help with the after race party

You are encouraged to volunteer – it will provide some good practice for the 5K that we may be doing in the fall.
