The Funfest 5K support team is seeking volunteers. This event raises funds for the Chamber (501 c 3) Foundation. This is the same foundation that we (the Maine Sanctuary) are associated with.
Volunteers can sign-up at the Navarre Area Chamber (Visitor Center – Hwy 98 and Navarre Beach Bridge) or contact Mike Sandler at mjsandler@bellsouth.net
Volunteers are needed to do the following:
Build race packets week prior to Funfest
Help set up course or registration on morning of race
Help during the race on the course or finish line
Help with the after race party
You are encouraged to volunteer – it will provide some good practice for the 5K that we may be doing in the fall.
The Marine Sanctuary Committee is helping to gather support and volunteers for the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup this September.
Last year there were 300 plus volunteers from the Navarre Area that cleaned up from Navarre Park on the mainland across the causeway and Navarre beach down to the National Seashore. Here are some statistics/info from the 2008 effort:
• 4th largest cleanup in the world
• 32,696 volunteers
• 416,279 lbs of debris removed
• 1,966 miles of beaches, lakes & waterways cleaned
• Over 500 cleanup sites statewide
The cleanup is currently planned for the third weekend in September. Mike Sandler is coordinating the efforts in the Navarre area.
If you want to participate please email Dave Barker ( kykdave@usa.net ) with your contact information and what day or day (Saturday/Sunday) you can help.
